STENCIL TIPS for Bare Floor & Tile Floor Stenciling

STENCIL TIPS for Bare Floor & Tile Floor Stenciling

TILE STENCILING POINTERS
~
IF YOU ARE STENCILING ONTO EXISTING TILES DON’T USE TILE GUIDES marked by the arrows.  If you ordered them but you don’t need them tape over them! They’re at the Bottom and Right side of each stencil.
~
PRE- STENCILING POINTERS: Relax, and take your time.  By now your floors should be completely cleaned with a degreaser and painted over x2 with a background paint color which is now fully dried.
~
Here are Tips that apply to all stenciling.
~
1. Keep your supplies handy – Knee pads, paper plates for stencil paint, stencil brushes x 2-3, painters tape, Q-Tips, Paper Towels. Have access to water for easy touch ups.
~
2. When you place the Stencil over the space, tape the 4 corners of the stencil down with painters tape to secure the stencil to keep it from slipping.
~
3. When stenciling the design if you get paint under your stencil use a little of the same background paint used on your floor or walls to touch up the paint that bled outside your design or use a Q-tip to clean the design.
~
Be sure to use LESS paint on your brush and tap off excess paint after loading your brush.
LESS PAINT IS BEST. :) You can avoid “bleeding” paint under your stencil

TO STENCIL BARE FLOORS
~
Once your background color is totally dry- lay the stencil in the upper far LEFT <- corner of your room. Use your Stencil paint to cover the entire stencil design with your brush or roller then allow this to fully dry. Next, lay the stencil over the previously painted Tile Guides on the RIGHT to align your Stencil. Repeat this process to complete the 1st row.
When the 1st row is completed move down to the 2nd row and use the bottom of the stencils TILE GUIDES from the first row that you stenciled to start Stencil #1 on 2nd row. Use the TILE GUIDES at the right side of the stencil to line up each stencil until the 2nd row is completed. Continue this with every row thereafter.
~
To stencil the spaces at the far Right and the very bottom of your room cut or fold the stencil as needed and AVOID using Tile Guides here. Continue this process around the room until your project is completed. Let paint dry 24 hrs.

TO STENCIL TILE FLOORS
~
Once your background color is totally dry - Start at the top of your room and stencil all the Full SIZE TILE in your 1st row beginning Left < to Right>
~
Once the 1st row is completed go the the 2nd row and continue throughout your rows stenciling all Large Tiles. Be careful not to block yourself into a corner.
~
Next move to the outer edges measuring the smaller edge tiles. Cut down or bend your stencil to fit those spaces and stencil all the edge tiles. Once you’re totally finished stenciling let all paint fully dry.
~
~Finally Seal your Floor & Walls with a clear poly top coat sealer to protect it!

USING A Stencil Brush: Pour a generous amount of paint into the center of a STURDY paper plate. Tap your stencil brush lightly into the paint. Tap off excess paint from your brush onto a empty plate or a clean paper towel to unload it.
This will help avoid Bleeding under your stencil.
